A studio for custom-built websites, platforms and brands. No templates, no page builders, nothing repeated, and delivered in half the time a typical agency needs.

What we build

Designed and engineered in-house, by the same people, start to finish. One team means no handoffs, and no handoffs means half the calendar.

Specialty

Film festival platforms

Film pages, searchable lineups, live schedules, in-page ticketing, interactive guides and print programs, all generated from one dataset so the website, the guide and the printed program always agree.

Custom websites

Designed from a blank page and coded by hand. No themes, no page builders, no template with your logo dropped in. Fast, exact and unmistakably yours.

Platforms & web apps

Ticketing, scheduling, publishing systems, portals and booking tools, built in the shape of how you work.

Brand & identity

Naming, logos, type and color systems that carry across web, print, email and social.

Interactive experiences

Animation, motion, page-turning guides and data-driven pieces. The parts people screenshot.

Campaigns & marketing

Launch campaigns, email, social and print in the same system as the site.

Photography & film

Stills and motion shot for the site, the campaign and the brand, so the imagery is as custom as the code around it.

How we think

Nothing we make starts from a template. Not once. Every project begins at zero, and the people who design it are the people who build it, so nothing is lost in a handoff or simplified to fit a plugin, and it ships in half the time. If you can describe it, we can build it. Bring the version you assumed was impossible. That is usually the one worth making.

The brief

A festival website has two jobs that pull against each other. It has to feel like the festival: unhurried and beautiful, rooted in a particular valley at a particular golden hour. It also has to sell tickets for six days of screenings across seven venues, and the schedule keeps changing until opening night.

Rather than add more pages to the existing WordPress site, we designed and built a custom festival platform.

Our approach

Design from the place

The visual language comes from Ojai itself: the pink-and-mauve light on the Topatopa Mountains at dusk, the mission-style post office bell tower, the layered ridgelines of the valley. Spectral carries the titles and reading text, and tracked Barlow Condensed capitals do the labelling, like the credits on a film title card.

One source of truth

The film master spreadsheet and the festival schedule become a single dataset, and from it we generate every film page, the schedule, the interactive guide and the print program. When a screening moves, it moves everywhere at once.

Tickets where people already are

We built Eventive's checkout into the pages themselves, with live seat availability. A filmgoer can find a film, read about it, watch the trailer and buy a seat without leaving the page.

A program that turns like a book.

The printed program, rebuilt as an interactive e-booklet. More than 120 pages that curl and turn like paper, built first for the iPad in a filmgoer's lap and just as at home on a phone in line at the box office. Every film, every day, every ticket, without leaving the page.

Animated page turns

Pages curl and turn like paper. Swipe, tap an edge or use the arrow keys, and fold a corner to bookmark where you left off.

Made for iPad

Two-page spreads in landscape, a single page in portrait, and type set for reading in your lap instead of squinting at a PDF.

On every phone

The same guide re-composes to one page at a time, with a day-tab strip and a thumb-reachable action bar on every page.

Search the festival

Press / and search films, directors, guests and venues. Results jump straight to the page.

Contents and deep links

A full table of contents, page numbers that are real, and a link for every film and every day you can text to a friend.

My Festival

Star films and screenings to build a personal plan. It stays on the device, no account needed.

Tickets without leaving

Eventive checkout opens over the page, with live seat counts, so the guide sells tickets as well as the website does.

Add to calendar

One tap puts any screening into Apple, Google or Outlook calendars, with the venue and runtime filled in.

Trailers full screen

Every film's trailer plays full-screen from its page, then drops you back on the page you were reading.

Happening now

During the festival, a live view of what is screening right now and what is next, straight from the schedule.

Instant return visits

Cached on the device after the first visit, so it opens immediately on festival-week cell signal.

One dataset

Generated from the same data as the website and the 60-page printed program, so nothing ever disagrees.

More work coming soon

The next builds are in production. Until they launch, the Ojai platform is the one to study.

How a project runs

Five stages, one team the whole way through. Because nothing waits on a handoff, a project here takes half the time a typical agency quotes, often less.

01

Listen

We learn how your organization works, who it serves and where the current site gets in the way.

02

Design

Art direction, type, color and layout drawn from your world, shown as real screens.

03

Build

Hand-coded, fast and exact, by the same people who designed it. If it needs a platform behind it, we build that too.

04

Launch

Tested on every screen and shipped on the date we gave you, which is usually weeks before anyone expects it. Then watched closely through the first weeks.

05

Keep going

Sites live longer than launches. We stay on for the changes and the next idea.

Start a one of one

TimelinesEvery project is scoped on its own, and you get a real date and a fixed price after the first call. Plan on half the time a typical agency would quote, often less.
